Platinum Stars v Baroka FC

Both Platinum Stars and Baroka FC are clubs in crisis ahead of their Valentine's Day date in the Nedbank Cup on Wednesday evening.

The clash at the Royal Bafokeng Sports Palace is scheduled to kick off at 7.30pm.

Dikwena, who have had a rotten season so far, will welcome a distraction from their dismal league campaign, and eager to take on Bakgaga, who at one stage topped the league, but have since seen their wheels fall off spectacularly.

But, despite Baroka's stagnating season, Stars coach Roger de Sa is aware of the threat the Polokwane-based team posed, but is hoping it ingites their bid for survival.

"Cups can turn your season around. We are going to give a couple of players a rest, but our priority is to win the game," De Sa was quoted by KickOff.

"We are definitely going to give it our best shot," said De Sa.

"Baroka made a name for themselves in this competition. Remember they knocked Kaizer Chiefs out some years ago. It's a competition that they really enjoy," he said.

"We know it's going to be a difficult one. We want to go as far as we can. Our priority is to win," he said.

The former Bafana goalkeeper added he was keen to give a number of his fringe players a chance to play in the cup competition.

"It gives us an opportunity to try out two or three players. It's a game that there's not much pressure compared to the league. We will try out a few combinations with a couple of players," he said.

"It's important that we keep the rhythm going, and from our last game against Chippa, our performance was okay and we want to keep that going," said the coach.

While Dikwena are on the back of a moral boosting 3-3 draw against Chippa, Baroka come off a 2-0 loss to Free State Stars, and reports that their coach has been suspended by the club for allegedly drinking on the team bus home.

Assistant coach Donald Makhubedu will take charge of the team for the clash, confirmed chairman Morgan Mammila, who added that technical director Doctor Khumalo will remain in the stands.

Platinum Stars' Katlego Otladisa will be the only player on both sides who will be unavailable for the clash due to injury.
